VACAVILLE — All of Gionn Peralta’s work on the mat has paid off.

The Vacaville High senior signed a letter of intent to join the wrestling team at San Francisco State University, according to a press release from the school, Wednesday.

Peralta won’t be completely alone. Gators head coach Lars Jensen is the brother of Wood High head coach Thor Jensen.

Peralta, a four-time California state medalist and two-time finalist (8th, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd), leaves Vacaville as one of the Bulldogs’ most accomplished wrestlers of all time. At the CIF State Championship on March 7, it was Peralta’s second match, a 13-5 major decision of Buena’s Fabian Aguilera, that broke Russ McGrew’s 15-year record for most varsity wins in a career. Peralta added three more, with his win in the state semifinals over James Logan’s Jacob Donato, marking the grappler’s 200th career win, a rare feat in the state of California. Peralta’s state medals in four consecutive years is a first for any Bulldog athlete.

Peralta also leaves VHS the most dominant pinner of all time, with 145 career falls – 31 more than the second wrestler on the list.

With a career record of 200-20, Lars Jensen projects Peralta as a leading candidate to start for the Gators at 125 pounds next season.
