FARGO, N.D. – Incoming North Dakota State wrestler Tirso Lara Jr. will wrestle for Team USA in the 50-kilogram (110 pounds) Greco-Roman bracket at the 2013 FILA Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, on August 13.
Lara (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) has put together an impressive 2013 season at spring and summer tournaments. After claiming the 106-pound title at the Reno Tournament of Champions in December 2012, Lara took third in freestyle and sixth in Greco-Roman at the Fila Junior Nationals in April 2013.
In June, he captured first place in the 50-kilogram Greco-Roman division at the USA Junior World Team Trials in Stillwater, Okla., to earn his spot on Team USA.
Lara won a junior national folkstyle title at 100 pounds as a high school junior in April 2012. As a prep, he wrestled for Poway High School and placed seventh in the 106-pound bracket at the one-class California State Wrestling Championships as a senior in 2013.
Lara is part of the NDSU wrestling incoming recruiting class that has been ranked No. 2 in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News and No. 4 by Intermat.
