Zack Velasquez Signs with Grand Canyon

On Wednesday Zack Velasquez from Ponderosa high school signed with Grand Canyon University. Velasquez took a handful of recruiting trips including Northern Illinois, Appalachian State and Oklahoma but finally decided that Grand Canyon was the best fit. Zack was a CIF state champion this past March at 154 lbs. Velasquez then went on to finish 6th place at Senior Nationals in Virginia.

He will join Ralphy Tovar (Poway) and Kenneth Moore (Hoover) as part of this year’s recruiting class. Also on the current roster are Californians Danny Chaid (Bellarmine College Prep), John Chavez (Bishop Amat), Matthew Hernandez (Orange Lutheran), Sean Medley (Wasco), Uzo Owuama (Bloomington) and Jesse Taylor (Poway).
