Two of the nation’s top rising seniors, Anthony Valencia and Zahid Valencia (St. John Bosco, Calif.), both two-time state champions, verbally committed to Arizona State on Monday afternoon. The Valencia brothers are the first Class of 2015 commits for first-year Sun Devil head wrestling coach Zeke Jones.

Anthony ended the high school season ranked No. 4 at 170 pounds. Within the last 12 months, he was a Junior National double All-American (third Greco, fourth freestyle) at 152 pounds, champion at 173 pounds in the NUWAY Las Vegas event, Walsh Jesuit Ironman champion at 170 pounds, runner-up in Junior folkstyle at 170 pounds, and a FILA Junior freestyle champion at 74 kilos. In addition, in late May, he earned the privilege to represent the United States in freestyle at the FILA Junior World Championships at 74 kilos.

Zahid ended the high school season ranked No. 1 at 132 pounds. Within the last 12 months he was a Cadet National double champion (Greco and freestyle) at 126 pounds; won his third Walsh Jesuit Ironman title, this time at 132 pounds; and was a Junior folkstyle champion at 152 pounds. Should Zahid win a Walsh Jesuit Ironman title this December, he will join David Taylor as the only wrestlers to ever win four titles at the nation’s premier high school wrestling tournament.

At the collegiate level, Anthony projects as a 174-pounder, while Zahid fits in at 157 pounds.
