Wrestler Spotlight – Bryce Martin
Welcome to the Second edition of “Wrestler Spotlight.” We will published one every week to give a wrestling description of a wrestler who is a candidate to be All-State. This week’s wrestler is a junior from one of the top teams in the Golden state. This wrestler is making some noise and have garner some attention in the state. This individual may not always be ranked very high in the state but has made us take notice of him.
Bryce Martin from Bakersfield high school is proving everyone wrong who thought that to be a better wrestler one must cut weight to achieve success in this sport. He it’s currently ranked number 10 in state, but looks to improve on that. He has medaled in the following tournaments; 1st Chukchasi Invitational, 7th Reno TOC, 6th Doc Buchanan, 4th Temecula Valley and at the 2nd Raul Huerta Memorial.
Martin is an exciting wrestler to watch in every match he wrestles. He’s not your typical upper weight wrestler who just hangs on the lead once he obtains it. He goes after his opponents with his double leg take down or high crotch that he uses to take down his opponents. He is also a good leg rider throwing the legs whenever he is working on top. Since he wrestled 126 pounds last season, he is fast for his weight class and moves like a light weight.
Martin is currently coached by Former Cal State Bakersfield and NCAA qualifier Andy Varner.
Notable Wins: Bradley Ojala (West Covina), Harlan Kistler (ML King), Jaime Martinez (Lemoore), Nathan Morris (Redwood) and Alec Gamboa (Madera).
That’s my boy!
